Meyer Julien Paris 1860 silk flounce dancing shoes
A pair of delightful silk satin dancing shoes with provenance and dated, although they look even earlier to me. Glorious elongated flounced to the front are finished in the centre with an MOP buckle. They are completely flat, with kid leather soles and the famous maker stamp of 'Meyer, Paris'. There is also pencil handwriting to the sole of one. An unusual feature to enable the lady to place over her instep, are silk bands that attach the side vamps to the side shoe.
Condition Report
The shoes are exceptionally clean for age inside, with the usual kid leather and linen interiors. The silk exterior is just beginning to shatter but very mildly around the edges and a little at the sides. Here there is also very soft discolouration, but the shoes overall appear very clean. There is a tiny repair to one side seam of the handmade shoes. One of the silk bands sttaching the vamp to the side shoe has broken. The soles are superb.
